Work has begun on the making component of the Product Design GCSE:

Year 9 Mobile Phone Holders

It's been tough to design, develop and make these in 8 lessons as well as learn about sketchup - so well done to those who managed it!

6C Ducking Around in DT

This term 6C have been making toy ducks in DT.  They have used the fretsaws to cut the bodies, the pillar drill to create holes and a range of handheld tools and equipment to apply finishing touches.  

Over the next few weeks they will be designing and making Christmas decorations.

How to cheat at sketching

I showed my year 9 groups how to "cheat" at sketching by tracing over photos and colouring them.

These sketches can then be used to show possible improvements.

Junior School Tech Head helps with year 6

Emily McHale was on hand this week to help with some of our year 6 lessons. Her first assignment as a Tech Head, a new initiative by the DT dept where subject specific prefects or "Tech Heads" are available to help those lower down in the school with DT specific class work.
